Walt Coulston is a versatile property expert with 20 years of experience in the Australian real estate industry. Raised in the regional NSW town of Parkes, he witnessed firsthand the significant link between property and the provision of essential community services. Consequently, he has concentrated on delivering critical community and digital infrastructure across all major asset classes and markets throughout Australia, while earning a reputation for being at the forefront of sustainability and ESG best practices.
After graduating from Western Sydney University with a degree in Property Economics, Walt started his career at JLL (Jones Lang la Salle) in 1999. He quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the youngest directors in Australia, overseeing a portfolio of industrial, bulky goods, and alternative asset classes for major clients such as Goodman, Walkers, ING, and Lend Lease. He later founded Coulston Group, his development and investment company, which rapidly accumulated a broad portfolio of development and income-producing assets spanning the high-density residential, retail, commercial, industrial, and hospitality sectors. Walt then co-founded CK Group, a national diversified real estate investment and development firm, where he served as Managing Director and was responsible for acquisitions, feasibility, financing, and project delivery. Combining activities from Coulston Group and CK Group, Walt delivered over $1BN worth of projects, with significant developments in each major capital city in Australia.
Walt's latest and most significant challenge is to accelerate more sustainable practices in the digital infrastructure world through the creation of GreenSquareDC. GreenSquareDC is a hyperscale Data Centre operator committed to addressing the world's most challenging sustainability and decarbonisation issues associated with digital infrastructure, energy, and water consumption. GreenSquareDC's Data Centre is designed with the innovative "Five Pillars to Sustainability" approach, aimed at assisting customers in achieving greater business value with far greater ESG consciousness and transparency. Sustainability is, and always will be, at the heart of GreenSquareDC's mission.
GreenSquareDC's initial Data Centre in Perth, poised to serve an increasingly important global digital economy with a delivery cost exceeding $1BN AUD, will be one of Australia's largest data centres and the largest in Perth. Upon completion, it will have a total electrical capacity of 96MW, compared to the next largest Data Centre in Western Australia, which has a capacity of 20MW. Similar Data Centres will be established across Australia and internationally, all of which will demonstrate true best-in-class reliability and sustainability outcomes, which have not been achieved at this scale to date in Australia or anywhere else globally.
